I hope, that this new line will be successfull, but history shows, that it will become difficult. simply because it's plastic.īut there are indeed two concerns from my side on the new GJ250s: First is, that I do not know, how many "we" still are, since more and more collectors are only scale/detail focussed, second is the price issue, where I agree, that the average price should not exceed more than double of 1/400 models (i.e. I would never spend 200,- bucks for a plastic model, even if it has details such as Herpa Premium. There are still collectors outside, which are not just focussed on a certain scale, but they prefer certain style in terms of material and options. It is definitely something different to plastic models with or without landing gear and even different to the semi industrial products of Western or Inflight, having no retractable landing gear. Those models are zinc alloy die cast metal with retractable landing gear, same as the good old Aero Minis. You can't compare the GJ 250 models with anything actually available on the market. If, however, they were priced out similar to the Inflight200's ($100 or so.) then I'd prefer some of the finer details to be improved prior to jumping into a hybrid scale. If they were in the $35-55 range, I'd be sorely tempted to pick up airlines I was particularly fond of. ~~~EDIT~~~After additional reflection, most all of my "concerns" list (well, except for the printing level of titles, etc) could be totally overlooked depending on the price point. From other responses, I gather that this scale would be particularly attractive to the AeroMini collectors….but since I don’t have any, the 1:200 scale would be far preferable to me.Īll things considered, an inspired selection of livery and mould! My comments should be considered constructive and not “bashing”. I’d much, much prefer a 1:200 scale to complement my 200 scale collection-not enamored with the idea of another “hybrid” scale. I’d prefer the wheel hubs not to be a smooth bright brass finish.ĥ. Removable gear, like the JX/DW would be a nice option as well.Ĥ. (I’d rather have moveable control surfaces before retractable gear ). Would prefer a stand hole for at least the possibility for display on a stand more than retractable gear. Hoping this is only a sample or test shot, but the printing of the Delta appears way too high on the fuselage.ģ. The mould could use some improvement in the nose end-from the photo angles it appears to be a bit too long/pointy? And at this scale, I’d really want the nose turbocompressor intakes deeper and more detailed appearing!Ģ. Realizing these are probably only sample photos, but nonetheless I have concerns regarding:ġ. Great selection of Delta as the first release! The Eastern and Trans Caribbean are interesting to me as well. I love the idea of a stretch DC-8 as a first release!ģ. They are all metal with a nice level of detail! I’ve always valued Gemini’s overall quality.Ģ. The GJ 250’s are intriguing to me because:ġ. Even the StarJet200 plastics have me interested (especially the 757’s!) The new Inflight200’s that are all-metal are quite attractive. I’m just now getting into the 1:200 scale and love the details present. I've posted this elsewhere, but here are some of my thoughts:
